Sad indeed. Borders had a Target look and feel but underneath was a 'Blue-Light special'. It will be interesting to see the cumulative impact on Amazon. Barnes and Noble no doubt will feel an immediate and positive impact in the short term; Amazon not so much. Booklovers are hands on explorers who think nothing of getting lost in a stack to find a gem - an adventure in the analog world, more of a distraction in the hypercompetitive and thin on-line world. The way i see it, Amazon just lost their footing in 399 bricks and mortar retail book stores in prime locations. Barnes and Noble wins the Battle, Amazon will surely win the war, and I'll argue booklovers lose twice.

Excellent post jb. I agree, the entire space is a production of careful thought and welcomes each visitor to become a part of the space, a piece of art. Your son, for example, adds his element of wonder and innocence, soaking up the city skyline and absorbing Picasso's diversity. Your camera eye frames the form and function of this space, pulling us in with lines, light, and respect. Your passionate description offers us an emotional perspective, necessary to see the big picture. The pessimistic comment belongs as well, catapulting listeners to search for understanding, reach for information, and observe again. Thank you for inviting me. ~lsk

joe,
good reading, even for this non advert professional. I hadn't realized that helvetica was so popular in tribal communication or that introducing a brand new logo out of context would rally the troops. Thanks for the lesson. I enjoyed your writing...Keep it coming.

And great work on your BG website overhaul; looks like a grand effort and one good reason why I don't hear from you. Now Cindy and I are linkedin so I can stalk from afar :)

peaceful Autumn,
hugs for the three musketeers,
Lorraine
